Integration Ambassadors: A Grassroots Organization of Parents and Educators in Greater Hartford, Connecticut, Keeps Racial and Economic Diversity in Schools and on Agendas

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that by the end of the decade, no single racial or ethnic group will constitute a majority among children under 18. In about three decades, no single racial or ethnic group will have a majority in the nation as a whole. The way Sheff Movement coalition member Robert Cotto sees it, the more than 15,000 young people participating in the Hartford region’s integration efforts will be particularly well suited for this transformed nation. What’s more, he suggests, those young people will become the men and women best qualified to be “leaders in a society that will look very different from the one their parents knew.”
